Height Adjustment

Postby Illberato » 14 Jun 2011 20:31

Hey Guys,
Hopefully someone here can shed some light on this. Im aware or the stock seat adjustment option and also loosening the spring adjustment to allow for a drop of a couple of inches on the seat height, yet when looking at these two mods I swear that seat stock is almost, if not perfectly, parallel to the ground. How is this possible? Are these guys rocking a shorter shock or is this an illusion created by huge tires and a extra loose stock shock? Notice the difference in height between the handlebars and seat....

Hola,

I believe they both have been converted to hardtails.

Won't get it down as far as a ridged but it will drop it quiet a bit.

Ok I can't afford a $300 shorter shock , But I do have a friend that owns a fab shop. I had him take my swing arm and cut the shock mount off , move it back, and reweld it. It's hard to tell how much I gained , but it looks like I got the inch plus some. I still will have to build a couple brackets to hold the top of the fender , because with the angle change that cute little aluminum triangle won't work. Not a biggie. I jumped up and down on the back of the seat , with my wife watching and she said it never got within 3'' of hitting the fender , and I have the shock set at pretty mushy. So this made the ride/seat height at something acceptable.

Does anyone know where to get a shorter shock that isnt so short that it will smash the rear tire against the exhaust?
Here's another MA Hardtail convert.... Not too pretty..

When I was trying to get a lower seat height Greg said they didn't make too many shocks that were shorter than a stock Madass. Mine is about 230mm and I think some companies offer some shorter ones , but they are custom and in the couple hundred range. You would really have to know what worked or run the risk of buying an expensive shock that won't work. If you leave the muffler under the seat , you won't be able to drop it very much anyway.
