Changing your avatar image

If you're looking for a different avatar then the default one, you can check out the Sachs and/or MadAss themed ones that I'm creating. There are only a hand-full right now but I'll be adding more from time to time. To change your avatar:

1. Click on the "User Control Panel" link just below the logo at the top of the page.

2. Click on the "Profile" tab located in the horizontal navigation tabs.

3. Click on the "Edit Avatar" tab located in the vertical navigation tabs to the left of the main area.

4. At the bottom of the section, click on the "Display Gallery" button and the current selection of avatars will appear.

5. Select the one you want and click "Submit"

It would actually be nice if the avatars were bigger, say 180x180px, or even 200x200px. Before I finally broke down and made my avatar with the Sachs Bikes logo, first I tried several pictures of my bike, but at 70x70px you just couldn't tell what was going on in the picture.

OK, I can slack it up a little. I can give you 150x150 because that would leave enough room for the online tag and it's an easy fix. To go bigger I'd need to dig around the templates and CSS to make sure things don't get jacked.

I played with it a little in Firebug. You can go up to 230x230px and still have good space for the online tag, but that's probably a tad too big. After 245px the avatar starts to overlap the online icon.

Just a quick photo tip for if you want to use the entire 150x150px for your avatar. Turn the camera 90 degrees when you are taking the pictures of your bike so that the format is portrait style rather than landscape. Then when you go into your photo editing program and crop it to a square you won't have to chop off the sides of your bike. You'll just strip the extra space above and below it off.
